A taste of England in Texas
With the economy the way it is, a trip to England isn’t as plausible as it used to be. However, one visit to the Lion and Rose at Alamo Heights and your cravings for the U.K. will be completely fulfilled.Established in 2004, the Alamo Heights location was the first Lion and Rose pub. Now, the pub is serving up delicious British cuisine and events at four other Texas locations: Forum, Park North, Stone Oak, and Westlake (in Austin).Naturally, the Lion and Rose Pub are well known for their traditional British cuisine. For an appetizer, try a Scottish Egg (an egg covered in meat, breading, and fried) or the English Chips with Guinness Cheese and Bacon Dip. For the main course, choose from a Shepherd’s Pie or the popular Fish and Chips. The pub even keeps up with British culture, including one of the country’s favorite foreign dishes: Central London Chicken Curry. While the food is delicious, nightlifers will love the Alamo Height’s weekly events, too. Every day of the week, the venue holds a happy hour. Arrive at 4pm and receive drink specials until 7pm; such as 1 off certain domestic bottles and all well drinks. Every Tuesday and Thursday night at 8pm, the venue hosts trivia night. Better yet, Thursday nights is also ladies night (which starts at 7pm). Events change depending on what venue you visit; for example, the remaining locations offer a Karaoke night.Yet, the best feature for partygoers is Lion and Rose Double Decker Bus. The infamous British icon can be booked for private events as well as a Lion and Rose pub crawl- right-o chaps! Each location is open from 11am to 2am daily. So for a truly British nightlife experience, stop by one of the five Lion and Rose Pubs.
